Nobody picks the answer
Recompute any day
Fetch the beacon’s round yourself, and watch the four symbols fall out.
Each day’s answer is one round of drand, a public randomness beacon. Pick a day, and this page asks the beacon for that day’s round, right here in your browser, then works out the four symbols with nothing but arithmetic. Our server is not asked anything.
1Which round
The answer is the beacon’s round published in the second of the reveal. The clock alone decides it.
- Signal
- Reveal
- Beacon round
2The beacon
Two independent operators relay the round. The page gives an answer only when both give the same randomness, and the randomness is the SHA-256 hash of the League of Entropy’s signature.

- Signature
- Checks
3The arithmetic
Read the randomness as one number and take it modulo 360. That picks one of the 360 ways to put four of the six symbols in order.
- mod 360
The answer
What this shows, and what it does not
- The round is fixed by the clock, and its value by the League of Entropy’s key, long before the day. Nobody could compute it before its members signed it at 16:00 UTC, and nobody can change it afterwards.
- This page checks that two independent relays agree and that the randomness is the hash of the signature. It does not check the signature against the League’s public key; our server does, before it publishes a day. drand’s own documentation explains how to check it yourself.
- The app asks the same two operators at every reveal, needs them to agree, and scores your cast against the answer it works out itself.
- To fetch the round, as soon as this page opens and each time you pick a day, your browser contacts drand’s relays (
api.drand.sh, andapi2orapi3.drand.shif it does not answer) and Cloudflare’s (drand.cloudflare.com). They receive what any website does, your IP address and your browser’s usual request details, and the round asked for. Privacy policy.
