Above Chance

Support

How can we help?

A real person reads every message.

Above Chance is a daily guessing game and an open experiment, in beta on iPhone. If something does not work, or you have a question about the game or your data, write to us.

Write to us

We usually answer within two or three days. Tell us your iPhone model, your iOS version and what you saw. A screenshot helps. In the beta you can also send one from TestFlight.

Deleting your data

You can delete everything yourself, in the app:

  1. On Today, tap the three dots at the top right to open Settings.
  2. Tap Delete my data.
  3. Tap Delete it all.

This deletes your casts on our server and your history on this phone. It cannot be undone. The app then starts you again under a new random number. If today’s round already had your cast, it stays cast: you cannot cast again until the next round.

What stays afterwards:

Deleting the app does not delete your casts on the server. Use Delete my data first. If the app is already gone, install it again: the random number comes back from your iCloud Keychain, and Delete my data works as before.

We only know your casts by that random number, never by your name or email. If it is lost for good, for example after resetting a phone that did not use iCloud Keychain, we have no way to tell which casts were yours. The full details are in the privacy policy.

Common questions

My cast did not go through

If you saw “No connection. Your cast is not in yet.”, your cast stays in its slots. Try again when you are online. If it did reach us, the app finds out by itself and shows it as locked in. Casting shuts at 15:45 UTC, so after that a cast cannot go in.

“This copy of the app could not be verified”

Each cast carries proof, made with Apple’s help, that it comes from a genuine copy of the app. When that proof fails, the cast stays in its slots. Make sure you have the latest beta build from TestFlight, then try again. If it keeps happening, write to us with your iPhone model and iOS version.

Can I change my cast?

Not once it is locked in. You can move the symbols around as often as you like before you tap Lock it in. After that, one cast per day is the rule for everyone.

I missed the reveal

Nothing is lost. If you cast, the reveal you missed comes first the next time you open the app, with your score and what chance gives.

“Your history won’t open”

The app cannot open the casts it keeps on your phone. The most common cause is a phone that is low on storage: free some up, then tap Try again. Your history is not deleted. If it still will not open, write to us.

Where is my history kept?

On your phone. Our server keeps each cast under a random number, with no name and nothing about your phone, so that the game and the experiment can count it. The privacy policy says exactly what is kept.

Can I play on two devices?

The beta is for iPhone. With iCloud Keychain on, your iPhones share one random number, so the server sees one player and takes one cast per day from all of them together.

Who picks the answer?

Nobody. Each day’s answer is one round of drand, a public randomness beacon, and the clock decides which round. Anyone can recompute it, and this page does it for any day, in your browser.
